Houston's electorate has selected a gay woman as their immediate Mayor, creating the metropolis as the biggest in the US territory to appoint a blatantly LGTB leadership.
Annise Parker, who was backed up by the Victory Fund came first on her final election versus Gene Locke, an ex city attorney following a campaign which pulled general interest nationally for the reason of a possible history making result as well as the interrelated anti-gay movements intended to avert her triumph.
Her victory was symbolic not only for Houston's residents but all for the LGBT citizens. This is actually a turning point moment in US public affairs, according to Chuck Wolfe, president of the Victory Fund.
